Nagoya Higashi, Kariya | Week 3 T.8 :: Happy People Aren't Grateful, Grateful People Are Happy

Hi fam, here's some updates on my week.

On Tuesday we went on splits, I went to Seto with Ongosia Shimai and Sister Jolley stayed on Kariya with Jones Shimai. Ongosia Shimai is a great missionary and we had a lot of fun together. We even found a man who had interest to meet with us again!

Sister Jolley and Jones found a really sweet family and set up an appointment for the very next day. Its a young mom, her 3 year old son and 1 year old daughter and the grandmother that we met the next day. We shared a short inspiration message video and the grandma started to tear up. We are very excited for them.

We still have not been able to meet with I san, but we have been messaging him. He actually might be moving all the way into another area and we might need to refer him.

We found a cool new area to house that has be almost untouched. We found HUGE danchis (apartment buildings) that were NOT lockouts. Our first night there we housed a man who was a previous investigator many years ago in another area, and a woman who gave us her cell number and wants to meet again!

The new young couple we are teaching Rey and Ly are doing good! Rey has been reading the Book of Mormon and really enjoys it, he told us he feels an "overwhelming" feeling when he reads. We testified that its the spirit telling him its true, he even agreed that its true. We invited them to be baptized, but they told us they are planning to be baptized next month in the Phillipines...at another church. We taught and explained it in our very first lesson and again this time what the priesthood is and the difference but they didn't really understand. Were hoping to help them understand in our next lesson.

I had a learning experience on Wednesday before our lesson with the cute new young family and another one of our friends (Ari san) were going to meet later that day. During our planning session I was low-key stressing out making sure that we do all we can to hep them progress and teach all the right things they need to hear etc. I realized I was being motivated NOT by love, but almost a feeling of frustration and pride. I was feeling pretty fiery, and I knew I was feeling that way, and decided to pray for guidance...sure enough I got a really strong feeling telling me "NOPE. Horito Shimai, you need to have charity and love, start over". So we did. Bless Jolley Shimais heart for being so patient with me and my fiery attitude. Jolley Shimai was so sweet and suggested we teach her what she truly needs (not just going by the "checklist"). We decided to simpley read together with her from the Book of Mormon in 3 Nephi 17. It turned out great, and regardless of wether or not Ari san makes progress, I know that it was an experinece I needed to have for me to progress.

Thursday was Thaksgiving at President and Sister Judds, it was amazing. Bless thier hearts, it took them over 3 days to prepare :,) It was nice to have some authentic American food haha. We had a little missionary home evening in the living room afterwards about gratitude and it was very sweet. There was a quote we read that I really liked "happy people aren't grateful, grateful people are happy". - unknown.
