Week 1 T4 :: All gas, no breaks
Horito Shimai | Nagoya, Gokiso | Week 1 T4
Well folks, I'm here in Gokiso with Anderson Shimai and we just went straight to work! I'm always so amazed at how fast things move, there are just no breaks with missionary work.
Gokiso is a CITY. Lots of big buildings everywhere, lots of people. We don't even ride our bikes, we just take the subway everywhere here. It's one of the most populated areas in the mission. We talk to so many people, the most I have in my mission so far. Also, apparently it's one of the hottest places in the mission during summer time which is coming up soon.
Anderson shimai is awesome. She has taught me a lot these past 6 days already. She is definitely the hardest working Sister I've met, exactly obedient, super consecrated, all gas, no breaks. The way she OYMs reminds me of a Lacrosse defender haha. She does whats called a "J-hook", its a defensive technique where you run towards the other player from the opposite direction but slightly to the side of their lane, then a the last second, you curve in towards them at the right timing to meet them and you're able to stay on them and control them. She does this when she OYMs. I was a low-A not a defender, but I guess that makes the perfect balance haha!
We've met with 6 of our friends we teach and got some good stuff going on. So far all of our lessons have been in Japanese which is great, but also pretty rough because my understanding is worse than my speaking right now. Its hard to follow along, its quite tiring. In the past, a lot of our lessons have been in English because thats what our people preferred, but thats not the case anymore! We went to this area about an hour away, they're these really big apartments buildings, theres like 50 of them and they're full of foreigners, mainly Brazilians, Vietnamese, and Philippines. We found three new people to teach from there this week! We had a lot of on the spot lessons, and got some potential people to teach.
On Thursday we had an emergency Koukan, or emergency exchanges. The place we went is called "Inuyama" means Dog Mountain. Its Inaka, (countryside) and just all these cute little green pointy mountains. One of the sisters in another area was really struggling so we just dropped everything we were doing to go up there and help her. It's kinda cool, my companion is the Zone STL and watches over all the sisters, she's kinda like a super hero coming to save the day.
Not gonna lie, I feel pretty overwhelmed with all this change from only one transfer in Kariya and now starting all over again in Gokiso. We had MLC on Friday because Anderson Shimai is this Zone's STL. It was pretty interesting because I saw Carter Shimai (my trainer), Tasker Shimai (my follow up trainer), and Anderson Shimai (my current comp), and my brain got a bit confused. I thought I was going back home to Kariya when I saw Tasker Shimai haha. SO yeah, right now I'm still trying to take all of this change in. I've decided I'm not a fan of sudden change, but I'm thankful for this change, it’s a great opportunity to learn and grow. I know Heavenly Father is molding me into what he needs me to be, although its uncomfortable at times, it's for the better and I trust him.
